Droid Bionic finally has a release date: September 8

Droid Bionic release date youtubeNearly nine months after being first announced the Droid Bionic looks to have an official launch date. Seeing as Motorola and Verizon have been teasing us for months about the impending release it’s hard to call this date official. In a pair of Droid Bionic commercials posted on the companies youtube channel, the date September 8 is flashed on the screen. Of course the video is in isn’t in English, but seeing how they have both a Korean and Chinese version we are guessing that date applies for the US launch as well.

The Bionic has always been a beast of a phone, and after the redesign that beast was given a face lift. The newly redesigned Bionic will be the first dual core LTE phone available. Up until now Verizon customers had to decide between a dual core device or a blazing fast LTE connection, but that looks like the debate is coming to a close.  The Bionic might not be the only dual core LTE phone for long though, with the newly announced Galaxy S II LTE phone most likely coming to the carrier most likely code named the Droid Prime in the near future.

At this time we wanted to point out just how long this journey has been. The Bionic was first announced at CES in January, alongside HTC’s Thunderbolt. After skipping the launch with the Thunderbolt the Bionic went underground for a few months. When it resurfaced it was redesigned, and enlarged. The Bionic was first announced with a 4.3inch screen and during it’s hibernation rumor had it that the screen had grown to 4.5-inchs, but the latest rumors seem to disprove that.

It’s hard to tell why exactly it took so long for the Bionic to come to market, and why it was redesigned. Currently all three LTE phones on Verizon have a 4.3-inch screen, and single core processors, so maybe the 4.3-inch screen market would have been too cluttered if the Bionic came out earlier. The common gripe about all three LTE phones is the battery life, the LTE antenna is just too power hungry, so maybe Motorola delayed the launch to try and improve battery life.

Whatever the cause for the delay, the phone will be coming out within the week, and hopefully the time it spent hiding was well worth the wait.

Freed from limbo, the Honor 20 Pro finally has a U.K. price and release date
honor 20 pro

The Honor 20 Pro has finally received an August release date and price in the U.K., weeks after the phone was announced, and its more basic counterparts — the Honor 20 and Honor 20 Lite — hit the shelves. While Honor says the phone’s later release is in line with the company’s plan, it never provided a release date during the launch in London, and it’s possible the phone got caught up in Huawei’s ongoing problems in the U.S.

Keen buyers in the U.K. will be able to pick up the Honor 20 Pro from August 1 for 550 British pounds (approximately $670), which will secure you a phone with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, in either phantom black or phantom blue. To get the pretty phantom blue model, you’ll have to shop at Carphone Warehouse where it’s an exclusive, otherwise the black model is sold through various retailers including Amazon, Argos, Very, and Honor’s own online store. In addition to the phone, Honor is tempting you to buy one by offering the Honor 20 Pro with a free Honor Magic Watch smartwatch, which is similar to the Huawei Watch GT Active series.

The first HMD Android phones are here, and they’re super cheap
Rear shell of HMD Vibe smartphone.

Finnish company Human Mobile Devices is renewing its journey under the HMD branding, shedding aside the Nokia naming it used to use for all of its smartphones. The first handsets to bear the HMD branding are the HMD Pulse, HMD Pulse+, HMD Pulse Pro, and the HMD Vibe. All phones share similar aesthetics, with a few splashy colors thrown in for certain trims, and target the budget segment.

The HMD Vibe, for example, serves a 6.56-inch display with an HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 silicon runs the show, alongside 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage. Notably, there’s a microSD card slot that supports storage expansion up to 512GB.
