How Apple made the iPhone 5 thinner, lighter, bigger

If you didn’t tune in to the various live blogs covering Apple’s press conference this morning, this video does a good job of summarizing the main features of the phone.

While the new iPhone is far from revolutionary, it’s certainly a much-welcomed improvement. For the first time ever, Apple has increased the size of the iPhone’s display. It’s longer, but not wider — so you can see more content at any given moment, but the phone still fits comfortably in your hand.

In addition to a bigger screen, the new phone is thinner, lighter, and faster. To be specific, its 18 percent thinner and 20 percent lighter. In terms of speed, Apple claims that its new A6 chip is twice as fast as older versions — but we can’t be sure about that until we get our hands on one. According to the video, the new chip is also more efficient, and helps to improve battery life as well.

All in all, it looks like a vast improvement over the 4S, but be sure to check out our side-by-side spec comparison to see just where it improves.
