Bioware’s Baldur’s Gate resurrected on iPad by Overhaul Studios

Tired of Mass Effect 3’s divisive writing and its habit of separating crucial story material into downloadable content packs? Sick of being shackled to a PC or console to get your fix of Bioware’s special blend of spices, science fiction, fantasy, and melodrama? Overhaul Games has got you covered. That studio is making an iPad edition of the game that made Bioware’s reputation, Baldur’s Gate.

Announced on the company’s website, Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition are being made by members of the original development team that worked on the series back in 1998.

Bioware themselves however will have nothing to do with the production. As Baldur’s Gate is a Dungeons & Dragons property, which is in turn owned by Wizards of the Coast, the rights to the games remain with that company and Atari, Wizards’ current partner in the video game space.

Baldur’s Gate created the mold for Bioware’s games as they exist today, with a story largely steered by player choice and play that blends action with traditional, statistic-based role-playing. Bioware hasn’t worked on the series since 2001’s Baldur’s Gate II: Throne of Bhaal expansion pack. It was shortly after that game’s release that Bioware made the jump to console development, making Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for the original Xbox in 2003.

The Honor V Purse is the most unusual foldable I’ve ever used
Honor V Purse with its chain case.

The novelty factor of a foldable gets me excited every time I use a fold or flip phone. After all, there’s a big screen that’s being halved to fit inside my pocket, and depending on the phone, sometimes it’s made of thin glass! While foldables brought the fun factor back to phones, the Honor V Purse is bringing the same fun/exciting feeling to foldables.

I didn’t think things could get any better, but then I unboxed the Honor V Purse — and it has exceeded my expectations. It’s a reverse book-style foldable, meaning there’s a large portion of the screen that’s always exposed. I expected it to wear out within weeks, but I’ve had the device for a few months now, and after using it as my primary phone for three weeks, I’m amazed at how it has held up. It's durable, unique, and one of the most unusual folding phones available in 2024.
