Here's what to do with your old iPhone:

1. Call AT&T and ask them to unlock it.

2. If they refuse to unlock it, use UnlockStreak Activations for iTunes, which unlocks it permanently. It will never relock even if you update it.

3. Now that it is unlocked, sell it on eBay or Amazon. The unlocked one always sells at a higher price than a locked one.

4. Buy the iPhone 5 :--) Or switch to Samsung.

Exactly. There’s no compelling utilitarian reason to trade up. The software is fundamentally the same through each generation, and the $500 is for upgraded displays and chipsets that the software simply doesn’t need.

I honestly prefer my Windows phone. It does what I need it too and it’s never let me down before. I do like Apple products but I definitely wouldn’t drop a third of my paycheck on one unless it was capable of dispensing bacon on demand.

This one is actually different than the other ones. I for sure cannot tell between an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4s. I will notice this one just because it’s larger screen and new propietary, not standard complying adapter. With Jobs dead Apple is going down for sure and the iPhone 5 is here to prove it, and I’m glad about it!

Given Apple’s generous software upgrade policy, even the 3GS is still capable of all the new software, sans Siri. Only reason people upgrade is because it’s cool to do so, not because it’s practical. That’s the main reason my wife still uses the Ipad first Gen.
