Disney Snaps Out Kids Cameras

Disney's colorful new Pix digital cameras are designed to appeal to kids and teens...and their pocketbooks.

Getting a jump on the end-of-year holiday gift season, worldwide über-brand Disney is staking a claim in the digital camera market with new Disney Pix digital cameras designed to appeal to both young tots and teens at very aggressive price points. Of course, if high-resolution pictures are your hearts desire, you might have to go with a more traditional consumer digital camera, but for kids goofing around, having fun, and making themselves stalk-able via MySpace, these could do the trick.

The Disney Pix Micro will run on a single AAA batter and be priced at just $19.99; it can snap up to 24 CIF images (352 by 288, if we remeber right) and features an LCD for camera status and image review. Moving up, the Disney Pix Click will be able to store up to 200 photos at VGA (640 by 480) resolution, sports a 1-inch LCD, a flash, and 2× digital zoom: suggested price, $49.99.

At the top end of Disney’s Pix offerings is the three megapixel, teen-friendly Pix Max, featuring a 1.5-inch LCD, a 4× digital zoom, a flash, built-in framing feature, and an SD memory card slot. Suggested price: $79.99.

All Disney Pix cameras ship with Disney’s (Windows-only) Pix software for downloading and managing images; the cameras are available in a variety of Disney themes, including Pirates of the Caribbean, Cars, The Little Mermaid, Tinker Bell, and High School Musical.

Disney also plans to unveil a $79.99 flash-based 32 MB Digital Princess Movie Maker, which records audio and VGA resolution video, and will ship with a video-capable version of the Pix software.
