The 4C is quite possibly the most anticipated model ever to have come from Alfa Romeo. A mainstream sports car from Alfa would be big news no matter what, but this is the model that will reintroduce the brand to North America, so the stakes are pretty high. Much of the attention has focused around the question of how much the car will resemble the concept, first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011. Now, just ahead of the 2013 Geneva show in March, and the official debut of the production version of the car, Alfa has released some images of the car; and it looks almost exactly the same as the concept. The photos come by way of Autoblog, and show there are a couple of small changes, like the mirrors, but these are very minor and rather expected.
We also know the engine is a 1.7-liter turbo four-cylinder bolted to a twin-clutch transmission. There isn’t an official horsepower number, but the engine is used in other Alfa models where it makes 237 horsepower, and it is suspected that this will be the same in the 4C. Alfa has said that they managed to keep the power-to-weight ratio below 8lbs per horsepower, so the car is either about 2,200lbs, which is impressive, or the engine is more powerful. The rumors we’ve heard so far suggest the former. We’ll know more for certain next month, but for the time being, this comes as some very good news for all of those who have been breathlessly waiting for the 4C.
