Captain Planet Foundation and Fisker Automotive team up to fund environmental awareness

2012 Fisker KarmaFisker Automotive is raffling off a two-year lease of one of its Karma luxury plug-in hybrids to benefit the Captain Planet Foundation’s small grants program. The Foundation funds projects that promote environmental education and solutions to environmental issues.

A $500 raffle ticket buys a chance to win a two-year Karma lease. Only 200 tickets will be sold, so the odds are much better than winning the lottery and buying one of the hybrids, which cost over $100,000 each, that way. Tickets are on sale until April 15, and 50 have already been sold. They can be purchased through the Captain Planet Foundation’s website.

The Captain Planet Foundation claims to have funded over 1,500 projects that have increased recycling, started education programs for children, and helped to maintain sensitive areas like rivers, streams, and wetlands. Anyone who grew up watching the Captain Planet cartoon will have a burst of nostalgia when they see the Foundation’s grant categories: Wind, Fire, Earth, Water, and Heart.

If Captain Planet needed a car, he would probably get a Karma. This “electric vehicle, extended range” (EV-ER) is powered by a 20.1-kWh lithium-ion battery pack hooked to two electric motors. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine kicks in when the batteries lose their charge.

The Karma has a 50-mile electric-only driving range, and an EPA fuel economy rating of 54 MPGe. It can also do 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 125 mph.

Concept image of the larger electric G-Wagon

While there's much we don't know about what will become the production model of the EQG, Mercedes has also shared a lot about it. Curious about whether the Mercedes-Benz EQG could be the EV for you? Here's everything we know so far.
Design
Fear not -- the EQG will retain many of the design aspects of the G-Class that you already know and love but with a modern face-lift. The EQG will keep the boxy design that gives the G-Class a classic look but with some additional modern styling, at least if the concept version is anything to go by.

Sure, the R2 isn't cheap -- but it's a whole lot cheaper than most other EVs out there, especially when it comes to SUVs. But Rivian isn't the only company trying to tackle the problem of the budget electric SUV. The Kia EV9 is finally available, and it too offers a modern design and a range of helpful features.

Given the fact that the Rivian R2 and Kia EV9 are two electric SUVs in a similar price range, you might be wondering which is better for your needs. That's why we put the Rivian R2 and the Kia EV9 head-to-head.
Design
Both the Rivian R2 and the Kia EV9 are actual SUVs -- not crossovers pretending to be SUVs, like plenty of other EVs out there. The two vehicles offer big, boxy designs and plenty of interior space, making them excellent options for families or those who need that extra storage.
