Geneva 2013: 2014 Grand Cherokee to invade European shores

While it may be easy to assume that most European drivers scoot down the street in Renault Clios or Smart Fortwos, you may be surprised by how many Jeep products the US exports across the Atlantic.  At this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Jeep plans to own the floor with it’s updated 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

We’ve already seen the new Grand Cherokee at the Detroit Auto Show, but this will be the SUV’s debut for the global market.  The 2014 model includes a new 8-speed automatic transmission to improve accelerations, gear-shifting and fuel economy.  The front of the Grand Cherokee received a significant redesign, including standard bi-xenon headlamps and LED daytime-running lights.

Also on the floor will be the updated 2014 Jeep Compass.  The updated model includes a new 6-speed automatic transmission, an overhauled interior for added comfort, and a handful of new safety features.  The Compass may be playing catch-up with many other vehicles in the industry, but it finally offers a rear back-up camera and front seat-mounted airbags.

And what would Jeep be without the Wrangler?  This year in Geneva, the brand plans to show off its Rubicon 10th Anniversary edition.  We’ve never seen a Wrangler look so handsome right out of the box, and a lot of that can be credited to the SUV’s dual-intake domed hood, black wheels, and flashy red leather interior.

Each of these Jeep models is offered in both gasoline and diesel for the European market, which is something we’ll envy until we get the same options in the US.  For now, we’re just excited that Jeep’s diesel engines are slowly starting to creep in to the American-spec models, too.  Stay tuned next week for more information on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Compass and Wrangler Rubicon from the Geneva Motor Show.
