Gridiron-and-Gearheads-The-top-car-commercials-of-Superbowl-XLVI

With Superbowl XLVI just around the corner, we bring you the most eagerly anticipated car commercials scheduled to air this coming Superbowl Sunday.

Cars and football go together like beer and hot dogs, so with the Superbowl XLVI rapidly approaching automakers are spending big money in hopes of getting big reactions from consumers. Since Superbowl commercials have become just as much a part of the experience as the game itself (many people even claim they only watch it for the creative ads) it’s not surprising in the least that companies pull out all the stops come game day.

And we mean all the stops. For a little perspective, consider that last year some 111 million people tuned in to watch Superbowl XLV according to Nielsen. In addition, the average cost for a 30 second ad during last year’s event was $3, 100,00, which equates to roughly $103,000 per second. Traditionally, auto companies rank among the highest spenders on Superbowl ads, spending a whopping $77.5 million last year alone.

So with all that commercial cash being spent by the likes of Honda, Audi, GM, Hyundai, Suzuki, Toyota, etc, it’s clear automakers are hoping to spur some major interest in their respective brand and cars. Will they be successful? That’s for you to decide, but thankfully we have compiled some of the more anticipated Superbowl car commercials for your viewing pleasure.

Don’t forget to sound off in the comments section and let us know which ad was your favorite and why.

Cadillac

Cadillac’s ad for the Superbowl will run 30 seconds long and highlight the new ATS sedan, which made its debut recently at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. While many of the other car commercials scheduled to air on Sunday will inject a healthy dose of humor or try to impress you with some celebrity endorsement, Cadillac’s ad will instead show off the ATS on the twisty “Green Hell” that is Nürburgring, Germany.

Hyundai

Korean automaker Hyundai is entering the Superbowl advertisement ring with a trio of commercials, including an appropriately Rocky themed ad featuring its Montgomery, Alabama plant workers.

Of all Hyundai’s Superbowl ads, their “Cheetah” commercial is probably our favorite. Injecting a sprinkle of ‘bromance’ and a  healthy helping of humor, the Korean automaker demonstrates its snappy commercial making chops and manages to show off its Veloster Turbo in the process. And hey, what can we say, we’re eternal suckers for “The Dude” himself, Jeff Bridges.

And finally, showing off the sleek and stylish Genesis Coupe R-Spec is Hyundai’s “Think Fast” commercial, and while the ad may not get your pulse going, the spot will at least tickle a rib or two.

Honda

Honda’s crack at a memorable half-time ad will certainly put a smile on those that have a soft-spot for Mathew Broderick’s eighties classic, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Broderick reprises his role from his breakthrough film, more or less, and instead of driving around a 1961 Ferrari 250GT California Spyder, has taken to wheel of Honda’s 2012 CR-V.

Toyota

Toyota hasn’t had a Superbowl ad in three years. The Japanese automaker is returning to the footballing fracas with it’s new 2012 Camry ad. You may notice that the “It’s Reinvented” ad carries on from last year’s reinvention theme, but this time instills some much appreciated humor, a rarity among Toyota’s often serious and sobering ads. Also, in a nod to current social trends, Toyota is encouraging viewers to tweet with the #Reinvented hashtag  about what they would like to see reinvented, and according to Toyota selected tweets will be responded to in real-time with a creative depiction of their idea.
