Jaguar’s fun ‘Desire’ ad/short film captures the sound, exhilaration of new F-Type, just watch out for crazed drug lords

Believe it or not, Jaguar hasn’t launched a true sports car in 52 years, the last was the 1961 E-Type. So it makes sense that the British brand is making a bit of a big deal about the 2014 F-Type.

The latest bit of F-Type fanfare is a 13-some minute long video starring Damian Lewis and Shannyn Sossamon. Titled “Desire,” the Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma and Louise) production follows the two stars in a V8-powered action vignette (watch it below).

We recently spent a few days in the hills outside Pamplona, Spain driving the F-Type and the first thing we can tell you is: Yes, the F-Type does snarl and snort exactly as it does in the film.

While Lewis and Sossamon’s drive was a bit more perilous and a tad dustier and than ours, it captures the excitement of the vehicle quite well.

The 2014 F-Type – no matter the engine, be it the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 or the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 – is a calm, collected sports car for the playboy in us all. It’s capable of a comfortable cruise or a corner-hugging, kidney-jostling sprint.

Our favorite bit of the F-Type, aside from the engine and dual-mode exhaust, was the eight-speed automatic transmission, which only receives a brief mention in the film. So many motoring fans accuse automakers of belying the sports car with automatics.

We agree that connectivity drops slightly when the physical shifting is left to a computer or solenoid but the speed and smoothness with which the Jag eight-speed shifts easily outweighs any connectivity concerns.

The F-Type is currently on sale in British Jaguar showrooms and will be available in showrooms Stateside in short order.

While we can’t promise that you’ll have quite as scenic an adventure a seen in Desire – or such a beautiful co-pilot – we urge you to go check the F-Type out.

Placed snugly between the Porsche Cayenne and the 911, the F-Type provides something neither cars can: distinction. And that’s half the fun of a sports car anyway.

Concept image of the larger electric G-Wagon

The G-Class is going electric. We already knew that Mercedes-Benz was working on an electric, small-size G-Wagon, but it looks like the company is also working on a larger G-Class SUV, in the form of the EQG. In fact, Mercedes has gone as far as to show off a concept version of the off-roader.

While there's much we don't know about what will become the production model of the EQG, Mercedes has also shared a lot about it. Curious about whether the Mercedes-Benz EQG could be the EV for you? Here's everything we know so far.
Design
Fear not -- the EQG will retain many of the design aspects of the G-Class that you already know and love but with a modern face-lift. The EQG will keep the boxy design that gives the G-Class a classic look but with some additional modern styling, at least if the concept version is anything to go by.

Rivian R2 vs. Kia EV9: battle of affordable electric SUVs

The long-awaited Rivian R2 has finally been announced, and it's an excellent option for those who want an electric SUV that doesn't completely break the bank. Sure, the R2 isn't cheap -- but it's a whole lot cheaper than most other EVs out there, especially when it comes to SUVs. But Rivian isn't the only company trying to tackle the problem of the budget electric SUV. The Kia EV9 is finally available, and it too offers a modern design and a range of helpful features.

Given the fact that the Rivian R2 and Kia EV9 are two electric SUVs in a similar price range, you might be wondering which is better for your needs. That's why we put the Rivian R2 and the Kia EV9 head-to-head.
Design
Both the Rivian R2 and the Kia EV9 are actual SUVs -- not crossovers pretending to be SUVs, like plenty of other EVs out there. The two vehicles offer big, boxy designs and plenty of interior space, making them excellent options for families or those who need that extra storage.
