Lamborghini likely to bring font-engine GT car to Geneva, unlikely it won’t be amazing

Lamborghini likely to bring a font-engine GT car to Geneva, highly unlikely that it won’t be amazing

It seems odd — given the automaker’s lineup over the past few decades — but there was a time when Automobili Lamborghini didn’t build anything that wasn’t a gran turismo. The Miura changed everything, but those early GT cars really were amazing vehicles. Now, Lambo CEO Stephan Winkelmann has told Autocar that the company will be bringing a new model to the Geneva Motor Show next month, which will be, as he put it, “something truly extraordinary that’s based on the V12″. He also added that it would not share a platform with the Aventador, and since Lamborghini have recently shown concepts of just about every other vehicle type, this means it will probably be a front-engine GT concept.

Lamborghini Urus Concept

That’s some pretty amazing news, and it would mean some serious competition for the Ferrari F12, which is always good news to gearheads. Winkelmann did say that this would just be a concept for consideration and not at all guaranteed for production. That does makes sense, considering Lamborghini’s efforts are currently focused mainly on getting the Urus SUV (pictured above) green lit by the VW board. Then there’s also the matter of the car to replace the Gallardo, which will almost certainly get higher priority. So any production GT car will still be a few years off even in the best-case scenario, but it’s still exciting to think about. Of course, a successful Urus could speed up the whole process, so here’s to hoping.

The Geneva Motor Show will mark Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary, so something special will certainly be in order.
