Rumored high performance Jaguar F-Type GT could tear up the track with 600 hp

Jaguar F-Type GT renderingJaguar is giving the F-Type the power to match its stunning looks. Autocar reports that Jag is working on a high performance variant of the two-seat sports car, with upwards of 600 horsepower.

In addition to having the highest output of any Jaguar currently on sale, this range-topping F-Type would be less restrained, emphasizing sportiness over luxury, like the XKR-S GT Jag unveiled at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

Jaguar hasn’t confirmed the new model, but Jaguar Land Rover Global Brand Director Adrian Hallmark said the product planners are interested in pursuing more limited-edition GT models.

“Clearly, building a run of 30 to 50 exclusive GTs isn’t going to have any impact on the fortunes of the company in sales terms, but the importance of these projects lies in the knowledge they give us,” Hallmark told Autocar.

Hallmark said that knowledge could help improve Jaguar’s mainstream cars. The XKR-S GT is, after all, an XK on steroids. The same would be true of an F-Type GT.

The F-Type GT would probably use the same 5.0-liter supercharged V8 as the XKR-S GT and XJR, which makes 550 hp in those cars.

Currently, the most powerful F-Type is the V8 S, which has a 495 hp, supercharged 5.0-liter engine. Jaguar says that car will do 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, and reach a top speed of 186 mph. We’re very eager to find out what it will do with 105 extra horses.

The heavier, and less powerful, four-seat XKR-S GT can already do 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, so the F-Type GT could be catapulted into supercar territory.

Jaguar F-Type front three-quarter viewIf the F-Type GT does get built, it probably won’t arrive in showrooms until 2016. Like the XKR-S GT, Jaguar may only build a handful of examples.

An F-Type coupe could show up between now and 2016, or the F-Type GT could get built as a convertible. Perhaps Jaguar will even give the rumored F-Type Shooting Brake the GT treatment.

Regardless of the body style, if the F-Type GT is as mean as it sounds, 2016 can’t come soon enough.

Rivian R2 vs Hyundai Ioniq 5: Should you wait for the Rivian R2?
Rivian R2

Rivian has taken the wraps off of the Rivian R2, an electric SUV that's similar to the much-loved R1S, but smaller and, crucially, cheaper. But the R2 goes up against some serious competition. The likes of Hyundai have been building solid EVs for some time now -- including the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The R2 and the Ioniq 5 each make a compelling case for themselves, and they're likely to end up being similarly priced if the Ioniq 5 doesn't get much cheaper and the R2 does end up being sold at $45,000. To be fair, the cars are pretty different -- the R2 is more of an SUV, while the Ioniq 5 is much more crossover-sized. But because of their similar price, you might be deciding between the two. How do they compare? We put the Rivian R2 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 head-to-head.
Design
The differences between the Rivian R2 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are perhaps no more apparent than when it comes to design.

The 6 best remote car starters in 2024
Best car remote starters

While some modern vehicles come standard with remote start features, it's still relatively uncommon. That's a shame because if you live somewhere where cold weather, snow, and ice are frequent concerns, a remote car starter is one of the best auto accessories you can have. If you're not familiar with them, a remote car starter works similarly to a key fob, except it will actually start your car from a distance instead of just unlocking the doors or trunk. That means you can start your car from the warm comfort of your home or office before venturing out. If you live somewhere hot, you can even start your car and let the AC run for a little bit. You'll never enter a freezing cold or scorching hot vehicle again.

The best remote car starters have long ranges, replaceable batteries, and other handy features — but how do you know which is best for you? We’ve compiled a list of the best car starters in a range of prices and features. Keep in mind that while you can install some yourself, some will require a professional.
