It’s not a GPS. It cannot record were you drove or how long you were parked in front of that apartment building across town. It records your cars speed, steering angle, whether the brakes were applied, things like that. The secret dash camera and GPS doesn’t record data, it transmits directly to the NSA and DHS. They don’t want to risk losing that data in a crash.

anyone know what type of memory would be used to store this data? I assume it can’t be a hard disk, so probably some NOR and NAND?

I would be worried if I knew I was breaking the law. It will be useful in making cars safer for accidents but it will also be able to start putting blame on a driver. I am sure it will be a cost increase of $1000 or more added on to each new car.

Hope someone hacks this or can jump it so the computer of the car bypasses it. Shouldnt take long. Next you will see automatic ticket printers in cars like on 5th element… Car gets diabled for swerving too hard to avoid a collision or it shuts down on a highway for going a few over down a hill. Should be interesting what will spawn from this but I hope they don’t incoprorate GPS with it as a big brother layer.
