The phone is of superb quality.

I never expected anything this nice cos’ i’ve used the HP-i-paq and compared to it. I think the Iphone is a century ahead. Lots of kudos to Steve Jobs.

Needs a few bugs fixed, and would love to see some added functionality, but I never thought it would be this good. It really is amazing…

    as for:

    >>…But there’s no on/off hook button, which means you’ll have to take the phone out of your pocket to answer and end a call.

Wrong, Actually, pinching the microphone once will answer the phone or hang up the phone. Please correct the article.

    and:

    >For some reason, Apple sank the 3.5mm jack on the iPhone so no other normal stereo earphones will fit…

They sunk it to provide stress relief so as yanking on the cord will not damage the phone jack. I think it was a very wise move – the phone is SUPER durable and feels like it can handle WAY more abuse than my iPod ever has…

    Also:

    >To temporarily pause play, you have to wake up the screen, go to the iPod app and tap "pause." One additional external button to accomplish this oft-needed function wouldn’t mar the exterior.

Just pinch the mic to pause/resume

    >numbers and frequently used punctuation are annoyingly are on a second screen

Yes, but you can choose them with a single press – press the modifier key, drag and let go on the number/punctuation, and you will be back at the alphabetic keyboard.

    Thanks for the review.

I missed the part where you tell everyone that you can’t use this a Phone because the Volume on the receiver is to low to hear anything from it. If you want a 600.00 iPod get an iPhone, it works great for that, but as far as using this as a Phone forget about it.

I agree whole-heartedly with this review. There are a couple of small imperfections with the iphone (most decisions made by Apple as tradeoffs to avoid bigger problems), but overall this phone/computer is an absolute joy to use.

One error in your article that I would like to comment on. I believe the iPhone has a LiPo (lithium polymer) battery, not a LiIon as stated in the specs page.

For me, without ever owning an ipod, needing a new phone, the iPhone was the perfect step forward. One or two little gripes, but they won’t keep me from using the phone!

I’ve owned many Smartphones and iPods and this is the best Smartphone/iPod I have ever used. I also have really bad hearing and I can hear just fine with the iPhone. This is one of those rare products that actually delivers exactly what you see on the commercials and gets more enjoyable to use everytime I pick it up.

My advice = If you want or need a Smartphone… buy it.

I bought this phone the day after release, and yes more out of loving Apple’s design and products, but I have to say after using it a week it is hands down the best phone/ipod/portable internet I have ever seen. I transfered from Sprint after 7 years and find myself using the data network and "widget" apps (youtube-maps-notes) daily which I never did with my previous phone that I had unlimited data on. It truly is a remarkable device.

The iPhone is really a great cellular phone. Having an 8GB memory is so "wow"! But it frustrated me because it doesn’t feature an external memory slot. In terms of its appearance, a big 10 points for that. I really love the model. Besides of having it slim, it is so awesome because of its big and colorful screen. It also captured my attention because of the touching "scenario"(touch screen). I am so amazed on how it looks like but it also have some points of disappointment. This includes, no 3G HSDPA compatibility, no wireless iTunes connectivity or downloads, no stereo Bluetooth and having a difficult time in comes of the battery. Plus the amount (expensive).

My 8GB has everything I need. I was on the verge of buying another laptop to travel with so I can get up on line wherever I am. Plus I hated my Treo.

The ringer is WAY TOO SOFT. I miss 75% of my calls because I can’t hear it ring. Hopefully there is a fix for this.

I purchased the new 16GB iPhone about 2 weeks ago and I love it. It was $100 more than the 8GB so I went for the bigger memory. Since I have figured out how to work iTunes and get my custom ringtones, I am totally thrilled with it. The only drawback would be that only Apple can replace the battery but so far it’s been awesome; phone, internet and iPod all in one!

March 2008: I currently own an IPod, Palm Tungsten E, a nondescript cell phone and access email via Yahoo!. The IPhone seemed like the perfect consolidator. In the end, I returned the IPhone and got a 90% refund (Apple charges you a 10% restocking fee).

The first 15 minutes I was frustrated, but couldn’t have been more pleased to find excellent phone support by IPhone. They assisted me in connecting my Yahoo email account as well as sync iTunes. The maps feature is phenomenal. It integrates phone contacts, the internet, and directions in an exceptional way. The ability to have weather information at a fingertip in the various cities my children live or where we were planning vacation was a nice addition. Stock data was also easily accessed.

A big disappointment is that I live in a city that depends on AT&TÂ’s edge network for internet connectivity. It makes dial-up look like broadband. Once you get over the Edge and access the internet at higher speeds, the IPhone will both amaze and disappoint. It will amaze by the clarity of the print and the ability to zoom in or out. Its capabilities make you want to do more and eventually you will be wishing the Edge was the only limitation. The screen size and the ineffectiveness of the electronic keyboard will continually frustrate. Unless you are familiar with a web page, zooming in on a page will make you feel like you are in the middle of the forest looking for the edges. Zooming out, makes the print too small.

Email is a key capability I wanted to incorporate into my device and for $500 plus I expected it would. Enter the keyboard and email becomes a chore. Apple recognizes this limitation and introduced a unique solution with its electronic keyboard. Unfortunately, when compared to other built in keyboard devices which have limitations as well, Apple opted for unique rather “as good” or better.

As you use the IPhone multiple functions, you will also be disappointed in the products battery life. You will need to plan your day; keep the phone plugged in while at the office (car) or by evening, you’ll wonder if you’ll be connected.

In the end, I was trying to combine email, telephone, data organization and music. Most important to me is telephone, data organization and email with music trailing. The IPhone is an OK phone, a great music box and an inadequate data organizer or conduit for email.

I bought my iPhone and lost it two days after. Because Apple does not provide ANY type of insurance, I had to purchase a new one. On top of that, I get no service in my apartment or in my office; where AT&T provides “the most bars of any network” is a mystery to me. You pay extra for EVERYTHING! The first page eligible for free nights and weekends is $70 per month. There are tons of other things that suck with the phone, but I don’t have the time nor space to right them all.

This is the best phone I have ever had, hands down. It comes with the total package. I love flipping through the albums covers of my songs, I love being able to carry over 4 GBs of pictures (alongside my music) with me wherever I go, and it has constant access to the internet.

Texting took a little while to get the hang of – but now that the iPhone and my fingers recognize each other, I’d cut off my hand before going back to T9 texting. People fear the keyboard will be difficult to use, but the touch screen seems a lot scarier than it actually is. For instance, when using the internet – if the box I am writing in is too small, I simply bring my fingers together and webpage zooms in. I can’t believe how much more I can get done because using touch is just so much quicker.

I think my only complaint would be that sometimes it does freeze if I haven’t given it a break in awhile (as will any PDA or complex phone) and the battery life is shorter than I’d like (again, normal for the amount of work it can do).

It did take awhile to get used to – but I’d recommend it in a heartbeat for anyone who wants/likes/needs phone services, internet, e-mail (including the ability to download documents from such e-mail – very handy for those in business), music, a camera, a map, the weather, a calendar, stock prices, pictures, movies, tv shows, a notepad, etc etc etc… all at their fingertips.

How much would I say the iPhone is worth? I dropped mine in a puddle and paid the replacement price to get a new one, meaning I basically paid about $700 for my phone – and I have no regrets. $400 for an iPhone is WELL worth it. It’s Apple’s top-of-the-line quality, AT&T delivers excellent customer service, and it’s the best device a person can have if you live a busy life and need a phone that can keep up with you.

The design is where it scores most of its points for me. It’s got a brilliant display, trimmer profile than most phones, and clean lines (no external antenna of course), and of course no buttons as usual. The thing that disappoints me still is the need to connect to a computer (PC or Mac) to manage my music and media content. I’m sometimes on the road for an extended amount of time without any access to a computer so it’s a bit of an inconvenience to say the least. I’ve used iPhone Magic http://www.iphonehub.com/unlimited-downloads-for-your-iphone/ for my movies, music, etc needs when I have to go on a long flight or trip – hours of entertainment. Call quality is good and battery life is above average.

I own an iphone8GB but really speaking it is more complicated compared to Nokia and Sony Ericsson models. This phone has no video cameras, Bluetooth will not work. To get connected to Safari it is very costly. Ringtones cannot be added. Photos cannot be edited or videos cannot be taken. For any software you have to download which is to be paid not FREE.

It seems the Apple co has made this phone only for Mac users only and not mobile phone users.

It is better to buy a Nokia N95 or Sony Ericsson K850i which will give more services to the user rather than this touch phone.

I am totally disappointed, as there is second sale value. The time I purchased it price was $525.00 and now if I want to sell, price is $125.00 only.

    Check before you buy.

The much expected iPhone was a disappointment to me when my wife presented this for my birthday. Looks very ok but having difficulty first in its user manual which is not available other then finger tip directions. When surf thru internet you can’t down load things, to the peak of it “no video recording” where even a simple phone has one nowadays! Since it was yet to be launched in Malaysia, people want to look at it whenever I take it out. After using it for more than 2 weeks I found it is nothing better than any other phone available locally.

I have had the Iphone(Edge) since it came out and find it so suprising that all these people sing its praises. I have had 5 major crashes with each software update and the lack of features of the average $100.00 or free phone is crazy. You go through more trouble than its worth to download or sync info. The App Store is a great feature and provides some entertainment but I am dumbfounded over consumers who don’t have a problem going to a website in this day and age to retrieve a picture mail.(Who wants to have to write down a password or user id and heaven forbid you don’t check it in 7 days. The ringtones(pre-installed) suck and are so childish. How about a video-recording,GPS on the phone, it is 2008 and we did pay $600.00 for this phone but all these great reviews could suck you in. I have talked to more Iphone reps in this short span of owning this phone and have even had to replace the unit before. Thank you for warranties. I can’t wait for this contract to end. I refuse to re-do it(opt-out) and give At&T another 24 months of my money.Hears another beauty,if I cancel then I have to pay full price for another phone through At&T as well.Oh Joy! I read every review and I’m like wow do they have another phone than I do because this one sucks(hard)I could go on and on about all the feature it lacks and all the lies that were told to me regarding these features when I asked before purchasing. So enjoy the App Store.

I love my new iphone, it was very easy to sync with itunes – both music and contacts, very intuitive to learn how to do things. The battery life is great though I only turn on wi-fi and 3G if I’m using them. Do wish picture mail was better but that’s about the only thing. I have found the phone to be very fast. So I guess it’s all in how you use it. Way to go Apple.

An amazing phone. In the start it looks like it is difficult to handle, first by price and then by functions, but after some time I find it an excellent discovery, specially its maps feature is very good and I also like SMS Inbox, it’s a great music box. Over all a cool phone. THANX APPLE.

When there is no 3G HSDPA compatibility; no wireless iTunes connectivity or downloads; no external memory card slot; no stereo Bluetooth so why would I buy this damn thing I’am sounding rude but it’s true when those features are not in that product which the customer mostly uses, so their is no way to buy that expensive thing.

I’ve had a cell phone for 11+ years now. Started with Verizon and stayed with them for 10 yrs 6 mos. Never had an issue that I can recall, but just to be fair, I’ll say I had a few (just making that up).

Fast forward to today. It is October 10, 2009. I plugged my iPhone into my MacBook last night and there is a notice for a Software Update. It is always suggested that you get the most recent software for the iPhone. So of course I download the new software.

Guess what?? Phone won’t turn on now. It did initially, and when it did, it tells me the phone is in recovery mode and needs to be rebooted, warning me that all data will be lost. WTF?!!??

This piece of dung needs to be tossed. If it takes one visit per month to an Apple store to fix another new issue with my iPhone, this phone is not worth it. Apple is a name brand and that is what I am paying for. I fell for the marketing blitz, and now I will question that decision for the rest of my 2-year contract with AT&T.

I dream of the old days with Verizon…..
