The Fireweb, by LG Electronics, is the first smartphone to utilize Mozilla’s Firefox OS, an ultra-light operating system designed for lower-end phones. In particular, the Fireweb ships with version 1.1 of the OS, which Mozilla claims improves scrolling smoothness and load times. All basic smartphone functions—multimedia messaging, e-mail, web browsing, etc.—are included in the package, and support for Facebook and Twitter is built-in.
Tech-wise, the Fireweb sports a modest 4-inch touchscreen with a 480 x 320 resolution, powered by a single-core 1GHz Qualcomm processor. The rear-facing camera is of the 5 megapixel variety. That’s really it—the Fireweb is being marketed as a cheap alternative to flashier smartphones.
