This is really sad that the 9290 is so big and clunky, slow and doesn’t have GPRS support. I would recommend getting a PocketPC phone edition or Handspring Treo if this is something you really need.

A little large, but I will weigh that against the size (thus ease of use) of the REAL keyboard. Great features. I LOVE the ability to dial into my ISP for REAL INTERNET – WWW, not just WAP(not that it would be practicla, but I always say [regarding net phones] that if you can’t download porn, it is not the REAL internet). The only things I don’t like are it is a little slow, and IT HAS NO SILENT VIBRATE FEATURE! I like mine, and not, I don’t use it for porn.

I have people complaining that my signal is breaking up even when the phone signal strength indicator shows full power. The fax modem does not work with the cable connector. Nokia support told me it only works with an IR port, which my desktop computer does not have. The Internet connection is so slow that my connection gets dropped continuously. Since I use Yahoo for email, that function is not helpful. The ring tone is inconsistent and sometimes uses the default tone. There are only two cell providers that support this phone – Cingular and TMobile, and Cingular is not available in my area so I am forced to use TMobile which does not provide coverage in many areas. The speaker phone is not loud enough to hear over background noise, and the earpiece is uncomfortable and the phone has to be just right for you to hear anything, so I end up carrying the hands-free cord everywhere I go. The QWERTY keyboard is large enough to use nicely, but the buttons are not laid out like a regular keyboard so sometimes you have to search for certain characters you want to use. Overall, I like the phone and PDA, but these frustrations are mounting. Also, the LOCK feature has stopped working, so I am unable to lock my phone or pda from unauthorized users.

I got mine a year ago to substitute breaking down and buying a home PC. Since I get most of my needs from my work computer, I thought the 9290 would be a cool wireless addition when mobile. It’s served it’s purpose, lots of nick nack problems I’m sure other users are experts on by now. I would definitely caution against transferring memory to card and back without ensuring enuff is there as it will just go out on you if not, loosing ALL downloaded photos, deleting WAP (I never used anyway) and taking out other applications I didn;t use. It’s a great attention grabber when out and about as women flock to me while sitting at bars having drinks wanting to play with it. (smile) But having bought a Inspiron 8500 last month, I no longer use it at home so I’m going to get one of those silvery, thin, light numbers to carry around when mobile (what a relief!) except when it’s martini time.

That’s saying a lot. I am a full-blown tech-geek, cynical and very serious about my technology. Being a technophile, I dove right into learning all the hardware, software and OS nuances to learn how to optimize the use of my 9290. The size is not a factor, since I have big hands anyway, it actually works out better that way. The software integrates so well with the application of the phone (for fun, I recorded a conference call with the built-in recording software and played the recording back to the people on the call, it sounded great!). I could go on, but the short version is: If you a without any doubt a person whose office is more aptly described as a car, or you love to be out and about in the world while still connected in a serious way – this phone rocks. If you just want some messaging and calling funtionality – go with a regular mobile phone.

Nokia 9290 is a very cute wireless phone I have ever seen, but the problem is it switches off by itself with out any warnings, it happens some times every 5 minutes some times every 30 minutes, so whats the point of having this cuty, lets have some uglies which works fine.
