This phone was so cool but after a few months of having it, I totally regret buying this phone. I hardly use it anymore because all you hear is an echo and it looses the signal all the time. Also, the battery life is horrible. I can't even go half a day without it dying on me. I've taken it to the store and they've upgraded the software and that didn't do anything. The reps at the verizon store won't upgrade me or do anything to help me and he told me that I have to wait until September of 2009 which I will not do, plus that is a lie. I am supposed to be entitled to an upgrade in the end of December of this year. I am just gonna pay to get a new phone and try to avoid all these problems with this phone. I am getting the LG Dare next. Please don't buy this phone because you will regret it.

When I first saw this phone I absolutely loved it, but that love was very short lived. Although this phone is stylish, and sleek, the features absolutely suck. I've had 5 different phones and every single one has had a problem. I have tried everything possible to get rid of the midnight calendar date, and nothing has worked. And 2 of the 5 phones which did not have the midnight alarm problem had sound quality issues. Like others said, it sounds as if you're talking in a barrel. I can't hear the other person talking because there is a horrible echo. I'm currently trying to get a different phone but the stupid Verizon people refuse to give me a different phone besides the LG VX9400, which I have absolutely no interest in. This phone has been the biggest pain in the butt.

I have SW Version V.u620.zL14 and have the midnight alarm issue. I solved the midnight alarm issue by shutting the phone off at night. My problem is the recurrence function in the calendar. I cannot get an appointment to repeat.

I have the issue with Jan 6 1896 but I'm going to the Verizon store tonight to get the update patch. My only other issue is that I can't seem to connect the phone to my computer though a USB connector. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have had this phone start ringing at midnight too. I took a copy of these reviews and finally got a Verizon manager to listen and search out the "patch" repair. He said it was repaired on phones after August and but mine still had the old software. He thought the sound issue - "like talking in a barrel" - wouldn't happen but it has. But the repair takes care of several things. Here is their "equipment software alert" in case someone doesn't believe you, like the tech and sales rep didn't believe me.:

EQUIPMENT SOFTWARE ALERT VERIZON wireless

Dated August 15, 2007

Samsung u620 - New Software AE25

Concern Samsun has released new software for the u620.

This software includes running changes from the previous version. This upgrade includes fixes for the flowing issues:

- Resolve issues with Denso Bluetooth car kits

- Fix issue with VZNavigator message pop up notification

- Fix issue where Calendar shows "January 1896" and alarm goes off every night at midnight

- Resolve reports that after downloading back up assistant and syncing contacts, that if the user power cycles the device the contacts are gone

- Fix issue where inactivated device emits a fast busy tone after powering up in some 1X only service markets

- Resolve issue where user would get and incoming call, switches over, but the incoming call cannot be unmuted.

The phone should have software number: V.u620.AE25 (new - with the repairing done) If you have these problems you possibly have V.u620.2L14 (maybe it is a Z instead of number 2 on his note.) The old software. To check your phone go to:

- Menu (OK)

5. Settings & Tools (OK)

9. Phone Info (OK)

2. SW Version

V.u620.AE25 (the OLD software)

V.u620.2L14 (new software) (the 2 may be a Z)

They saved all my data and pictures and reprogrammed my phone. But I do have my voice coming through my ear loud. I will go after the weekend and address that. They gave me this info to pass on. Hope it helps someone.

I like the phone. I would recomend this to anyone who is thinking about buying it! The only thing that i wouldn't do it put events on your phone. Also the battery life isnt the greatest. Other than that it is a great phone!

I've had this phone since the middle of the summer and I loved it until it started going off every night at midnight. I am now on my second phone due to this problem. I finally asked a Verizon Tech and they installed a service patch and it no longer goes off. So it is possible to fix it, however, after the calendar thing had been fixed the micro phone is jacked up. When I talk on the phone it sounds like I am in a barrel but other people can hear me just fine. The company is sending me a new phone making this my 3rd of this phone. If you want this phone remember NEVER use the calendar if you do and you have to get the service patch installed be careful it could damage the phone even more!

I also have the calendar event that alerts me every night at midnight. Have you found a solution to this yet? I have had two of these phones, and they both have done it.

I really like this phone. It takes great pic and the slide mechanism is great. Just wondering, does anybody elses phone have a calendar event with an alarm that goes off everynight at midnight, with the date being Monday, January 6th, 1896? It is really weird and I have had it happen multiple times.

I second the annoying part about not being able to add words to the dictionary, I also don't like that I can't make 'word' mode my default. I liked that my old Nokia would remember birthdays forever, so every year I would get a reminder and wouldn't have to re-set it... The battery life seems really short too. I would go 3 days without having to charge my battery, now it seems like I charge it every other day.

You cannot add words to the dictionary for easing typing when in word mode. My phone from seven years ago had that feature and this phone doesn't! Annoying! besides that.. the phone is good, but come on.. I need to add words to the dictionary!!!

I contacted Verizon and Samsung as well... and no one could tell me how.

My only complaints are that the battery life sucks and there's no Bluetooth stereo. The camera isn't the greatest, but I don't really use it.

Over all it's a pretty nice phone.

The battery life is very poor. Lucky if it lasts more than 10hrs with minimal phone time usage.

Did you know you have to tilt the screen on the LG phone to uncover the keypad to make a call, and then tilt back to listen and talk? That is a major odd design issue. The LG is certainly a beauty contest winner -- but in the 1st generation of this type of phone, I'd take low cost any day -- until the next generation comes with some kinks worked out.

Cool phone, but watching videos is a pain because you have to manually turn the screen to watch them. The vx9400 has a screen that flips up to a wide screen format. It not only looks cool, but makes sense. The u620 is a good phone though, just not as refined as the LG.
