Hands on with Polaroid’s $149 Internet Kids Tablet

Polaroid gets child-friendly with their new 7-inch Kids Tablet and parent friendly with the $149 price.

Polaroid is going all in with Android tablets at CES this year. In addition to the consumer 8-, 9.7-, and 10-inch tablets, the company is also bringing out one for kids. The 7-inch Android 4.0 8GB Internet Kids Tablet costs just $149 and is designed for children as young as 3 years old. The Kids Tablet has a similar aesthetic to toddler tablets from LeapFrog and VTech, but with a better display and full Android instead of a proprietary OS. You still get the soft-touch bumper to protect it from drops and abuse, and some modifications to Android so that parents can exert some control.

Polaroid is going for the best of both worlds with a tablet that has the specs and display of an adult device (to appeal to tech-savvy kids) plus a rugged design and software-based protections (to appeal to tech-savvy kids’ parents).
