BenQ undercuts the projector market with its new W1070 and W1080ST models

Though the term “home theater” is a bit of a catch-all, it is aptly applied in the case of the two full-HD 3D projectors that BenQ unveiled last week at CES 2013. The W1070 and W1080ST are the most recent entries in a line of projectors the company has built for the home and, on the surface, they look like a pretty good bargain.

Powered by DLP’s Dark Chip 3 (traditionally found in higher-end models), compatible with NVIDIA’s 3D Play, and capable of displaying in 1080p, these projectors seem to be packing some serious punch. BenQ also claims that the W1080ST is the first-ever short-throw full-HD video projector. The higher-priced offering of the two, it’s capable of producing a 100-inch picture from inside of six feet.

Continuing down the list, both boast the same contrast ratio, which checks out nicely at around 10,000:1 (don’t be fooled by some of the inflated numbers you’ll see other projectors list in this category, anything over 2,000:1 is considered excellent), and each sports two HDMI inputs.

Considering that some comparably-featured products are retailing for twice as much, count us as intrigued by BenQ’s newbies, and just as anxious to get our hands on them.

Both models are available now, and are priced at $1100 (W1070) and $1300 (W1080ST) respectively.
