Company claims its third generation MIMO chipset gets wireless speeds faster than 10/100 Ethernet.
Wireless technology company Airgo Networks today announced its third generation “True MIMO” chipset is being sampled by select partners, with retail availability by late this year. Airgo’s claim regarding this chipset is that it offers faster connection speeds than 10/100 Ethernet. Airgo’s third generation chipset is based upon MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output), which was invented by the company’s founders. It provides what the company says is support for data rates up to 240Mbps. Real world tests conducted by Airgo determined that their third generation True MIMO technology provides actual TCP/IP throughput of over 120Mbps with uncompressed traffic. In addition, their chipset features a single chip with two complete radios fully integrated, which results in a reported 15% reduction in building costs and a 20 percent reduction in power consumption. "When MIMO was first unveiled it reversed over 100 years of scientific thinking by harnessing natural radio wave distortions, which were previously perceived as interference, to deliver dramatically increased speed, range and reliability," said Greg Raleigh, President and CEO of Airgo Networks. "With True MIMO Gen3 technology our team has achieved a scientific milestone by proving that wireless can surpass wired speeds."
