An End To Child Abuse Sites?

An End To Child Abuse Sites?

Internet Watch Foundation urges ISPs, governments and police to work together.

According to the UK-based Internet Watch Foundation, there are 2,755 sites with images of child abuse, and 80% of them are selling those images.   The IWF,which is responsible for finding and eliminating child porn sites in Britain, is urging ISPs, police and government to work together to eradicate what it terms this “manageable”number of sites.   It would appear to be the first time anyone has counted the number of sites offering these images, which has remained static for the last three years.   "We think2,755 is a manageable number," an IWF spokeswoman told the BBC. "We are now asking for a worldwide effort to go in and really combat this issue."  Fewer than 1% of the sites are hosted in Britain, in part because the IWF shares its lists of sites hosting images with ISPs, who can then block them. The group would like an internationalbody do much the same around the globe.   "It would make it much harder for criminals to make money from the crime and thereby combat the problem," the spokeswoman said.  As yet, however, no group has emerged to take on the problem internationally.
