BenQ Dials in E Series High-Def Displays

BenQ's new E Series displays feature 1080p resolution, Senseye 3 calibration technology, and ports out the wazoo.

For years BenQ has been pushing LCD monitors out into the world, and while some of those displays are purely utilitarian models designed to appeal to consumers’ pocketbooks, some of the company’s displays cater to multimedia buffs and media professionals looking for a high quality experience. Such is the case with the company’s new E Seres displays, which offer full 1080p resolution for entertainment purposes, calibration technology for the perfectionist, and a bevy of ports for all manner of connectivity needs.

The new E2220HD and E2420HD each sport 11 connectors, including two HDMI inputs, four USB 2.0 ports, D-Sub and DVI inputs, along with three audio connectors. The idea is to let users switch seamlessly between PCs, televisions, game consoles, Web cams, and other hardware without switching around cables. The displays also faeture two 1.5 Watt integrated speakers, 300 cd/m&exp2; of brightness, and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio.

The displays feature BenQ’s Sensys 3 calibration technology for switching between Office, Movie, Game, Photo, and Eco modes—there’s also an sRGB mode for consistency with other sRGB devices—important for media producers. The displays feature a slim design with a side-mounted power button—we’re not sure how convenient that is for multiple monitor setups—and, just to be on the safe side, they’re already Windows 7 certified.

The E2220HD and E2420HD will be available worldwide in early August; the company did not publish retail pricing information.
