BenQ will start mass-producing its 14.1-inch wide-screen notebook, the Joybook 7000, in July, said Jerry Wang, company vice president and general manager of marketing and sales.

Joybook was highlighted at the company’s booth at Computex 2004.

BenQ is now delivering about 20,000 own-brand notebooks a month, which has almost reached its projection, Wang stated.

If shipments continue at this rate, said Wang, the company will be able to double its notebook shipments in 2004.

BenQ is also aiming to ship a total of 500,000 LCD TVs in 2004, accounting for about 5% of the projected global shipments of eight to 10 million units for this year, according to Peter Chen, company vice president and general manager of digital media business group.
