Logitech X-540, $76.99 – $99.99 (buy it now)
There’s nothing quite like a true 5.1 surround sound setup to bring your games and movies to life. Sadly, the hard cold reality is that few 5.1 systems of any quality are available under the $100 price point. Don’t take our word for it: Head down to your nearest compu-store, audition a few for yourself, and recoil in horror as they fizzle and cough when pumped full of volume.
One exception is the Logitech X-540. Available for as little as $80 online, the X-540 doesn’t break up as easily as many of its competitors, and is conveniently controlled via its wired remote. You’ll undoubtedly take a sonic hit, considering you’re getting six speakers for the same price as the 2.0 and 2.1 systems in our wrap-up, and certainly there is the added hassle of setting up, wiring, and positioning this many satellites, but if you’re the type who appreciates hearing gunshots, voices, or bellowing monsters coming from behind your right or left shoulder, all will be forgiven.
