Boston Acoustics MM 226, $126.99 – $166.00 (buy it now)
Boston Acoustics has been in the speaker game for about a gazillion years, so the fact that its three-piece MM 226 makes the grade comes as no surprise. It’s comparatively ballsy, with a two-inch driver and half-inch tweeter lurking inside each satellite and a 6.5-inch driver mounted in the sub cabinet. It’s also stylish, in a Euro-inspired way that some will appreciate more than others. And, for a three-piece unit, it’s space-efficient – the satellites are tall and slim with the tiniest of footprints, and the sub enclosure is a little over eight inches by 12 by 12. We wish we could control the woofer levels on the remote rather than via a knob at the rear of the sub, and the system won’t even permit treble tweaks, but not many will in this price range. Speaking of price ranges, you’ll need to look around to find the MM 226 under our self-imposed $100 ceiling, but we know you’re thifty enough to do it.
