Best Buy to Eliminate Rebates

Like a child upset with their parents, Best Buy who was punished last year for not honoring rebates, has decided to eliminate rebates all together.

“In response to customer complaints, Best Buy Co. Inc., the world’s largest electronics retailer, promised Friday to eliminate mail-in rebates within two years. Best Buy’s rivals, including CircuitCity Stores and CompUSA, are expected to follow suit.

“Our customers are telling us they just hate the process,” said Ron Boire, executive vice president and general merchandise manager at Best Buy.”

We love to hear this, but the question is whether customers will still get discounts on the products they pay for. Will the savings you would get from a rebate still be passed on in one form or another?

Circuit City, CompUSA and other large retailers are expected to follow this strategy. Rebates will be phased out of Best Buy over the next couple years.

  1. Ian Bell and Dan Gaul at 1:58pm 1st June 2006 CompUSA is notorious for not honoring rebates and 90% of their sale items rely on them. I will never buy a rebate item from them again.
  2. ROSE BATEMAN at 11:58am 1st June 2006 Best Buy does not honor their rebates. After five months of going back and forth with the rebate center I called the local store where I purchased my computer and was basically told by one of their managers (Jason) that they just don't care on the store level. He informed me that they were doing away with rebates. I informed them that they were doing away with customers as well. Myself and my family always purchased from Best Buy but won't ever be in there. Believe me when I tell you they will lose much more than the $50.00 they screwed me out of.
