The best computer speakers

Your PC deserves more than monitor speakers. It doesn’t matter if you have a lightweight machine for browsing the web or a high-powered gaming rig, the best computer speakers are loud and clear, and in this guide, we’re going to run down our favorite options.

It should go without saying, but not all speakers are created equal. Some are specifically for easy listening, while others are for intense gaming. Whatever your sound needs are, you can find the right speaker on this list.

The best computer speakers at a glance

The best computer speakers: Audioengine A2+

Audioengine’s A2+ are a simple and sweet speaker upgrade for your computer or related devices. The dynamic bookshelf speakers bask in clear accuracy and nuanced undertones that span the frequency range while offering an integrated digital-to-analog converter that lets you forego your computer’s analog output in favor of a purer signal.

The Audioengine A2+ speakers may lack a bit in the low-end sound, but they shine with versatility.

The best premium computer speakers: Klipsch R-51M

Klipsch has always been in the business of high-end audio, and with the R-51M speakers, you can bring the high-end to your desktop.

The R-51Ms certainly look the part with Klipsch’s signature copper woofer, along with a slew of connection options (including Bluetooth, USB, and 3.5mm). It’s the sound that stands out, though. The 5.25-inch woofers are larger than any of the other options on our list, leading to more definition in the midrange and a tighter low-end. The rear-firing port helps the low end out a bit, while the square Tractrix tweeter handles higher frequencies.

The R-51Ms are big and expensive, but both are easy to overlook once you have a pair on your desk.

The best computer speakers for gaming: Razer Nommo Pro

The Razer Nommo Pro kit costs more than a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, so it’s definitely not for everyone. If you have the money to burn, though, it’s hard beating Razer’s high-end speakers. They come with three-inch Dupont Kevlar fiber drivers that are certified by THX, offering unmatched detail and clarity. Most speakers stop there, but the Nommo Pro speakers also come with silk tweeters, helping define the highs.

You also get a down-firing subwoofer, and together, the kit supports Dolby Virtual Surround Sound technology. For connectivity, you have access to USB, optical audio, a 3.5mm jack, and Bluetooth 4.2. The speakers also support Razer Chroma.

It’s hard shaking the $600 price tag of the Razer Nommo Pro kit. Thankfully, Razer offers a much cheaper set of Nomma speakers for around $100.

The best computer speakers with a subwoofer: Logitech Z407

Logitech’s Z407 speakers are an impressive set, especially for the price. For under $100, the kit comes with two dual-position speakers, a 20-watt subwoofer, and a wireless control dial. The control dial is really interesting. It works up to 65 feet away, allowing you to easily control volume and bass levels, as well as play, pause, and skip tracks.

You can connect up to three devices at once using the micro USB output, 3.5mm jack, or Bluetooth. For loud, clear audio that won’t break the bank, it’s tough beating the Logitech Z407 kit.

The best RGB computer speakers: Logitech G560

Bill Roberson/Digital Trends

If you want your speakers to make a visual, as much as auditory, statement, the Logitech G560 is an excellent 2.1 setup that not only has great sound quality, but fancy light-show features too. It ships with heaps of colorful lighting options which look great when pumping along to your favorite tracks, but can also sync up with games like Battlefield 1, Grand Theft Auto V, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, to showcase information like your health or map location.

The Logitech G560‘s sound quality is excellent, and with DTS: X virtual surround sound, they pack a more expansive punch than their limited number of drivers suggests. It could take you a little while to learn how this software works, but with patience and perseverance, you’ll see how superior these Logitech speakers are. They will become an indispensable enhancement for your gameplay that will last you years without losing their value or relevance.

The best budget computer speakers: Creative Pebble Plus 2.1

If just need a pair of speakers and don’t care too much about sound quality, the Creative Pebble Plus 2.1 kit is for you. At only $40 for two speakers and a subwoofer, the kit is meant to replace the speakers inside your monitor or laptop. The two speakers feature 2-inch drivers that fire at a 45-degree angle (up toward your ears), and they’re complemented by a 4-inch, down-firing subwoofer.

The speakers connect via a 3.5mm cable and they’re powered entirely by USB, so you don’t need to worry about a cable mess. We’re recommending the Creative Pebble Plus kit with a subwoofer, but Creative offers several variations of the speakers. You can get the speakers alone for only $20, or you can nix the subwoofer and get the speakers with Bluetooth support for $40.
