Data Evolution Unveils New UMPC

The Cathena CX offers up a small form factor with a seven-inch touchscreen, 40GB hard drive and runs off of Windows XP.

Data Evolution, a developer of mobile and thin-client solutions, yesterday announced its first ultra-mobile PC (UMPC) for the North American market. The new Cathena CX has a starting price of around $800.

The Cathena CX, like other UMPCs, is designed to be a fully functional, small form factor computer. This Windows XP based machine sports a seven-inch touchscreen, measures 8.6" x 6.4" x 1" and weighs 2.2 pounds. It also sports a near full size QWERTY keyboard.

Other features of the Cathena CX include an AMD Geode LX800 processor, 802.11 b/g wireless Internet connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0 support, 512MB of starting RAM, a hard drive starting at 40GB in size, a rechargeable battery which offers a reported five hours of usage, a touch pad, five-way directional joystick, built-in speakers, USB 2.0 support and a mult-format memory card reader.
