building is the way to go, but then you have to worry about component failure, manu warranties, etc. people buy dells for a couple reasons:
1) they dont know how to build a computer
2) they dont want to have to fuss with the headaches that can come with building a comp
3) dell's warranty and customer support
4) it just works out of the box, pre-loaded with xp and everything else.

Nice systems if you want Intel , they don't use AMD which is much faster and run cooler.As for the value you can build your own system with all the name brand hardware,Asus,DFI,EVGA cards,powersupply, you get the drift!!!

Well, people who can build their own computers aren't really in Dell's target market for the XPS systems. :-)

For $2k($2000) you can MAKE a great computer..
