Dell Lights Up 0.8-pound SVGA Projector

Dell is getting into the mobile projector business, introducing a 0.8-pound SVGA unit with 800:1 contrast, plus DLP and BrilliantColor technology.

There’s no doubt Dell is best known as a maker of computers—from servers to ultra-portable notebooks and everything in between—but the company has long run related businesses, including computer monitors, televisions, and even a brief (and perhaps to-be-repeated!) foray into personal media players. Now, the company is getting into projectors, announces its M109S portable projector for folks who need to take their presentations—or their entertainment or games—on the road.

The M109S weighs just 0.8 pounds and offers a native 858 by 600 SVGA resolution. The unit also supports DLP and BrilliantColor technology for faithful color reproduction, and offers an 800:1 contrast ratio—which won’t win any awards from home theater fans but will certainly be enough to get your point across in typical business situations. The M109S uses a mercury-free LED light source good for up to 10,000 hours of use, and offers password protection to keep information more secure. The unit offers VGA and composite connections supporting NTSC, PAL, SEC, and HDTV signals (up to 1080i/720p, in the latter case), but there’s no HDMI input.

The M109S is available now at a suggested price of $499.
