Dell M6300 Promises Power for Professionals

Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme Edition processors and Nvidia Quadro graphics put Dell's latest Precision notebook model on par with desktops.

Dell’s Precision line of professional workstations got another mobile option on Tuesday with the introduction of the M6300 notebook. Designed for artists, engineers, developers and other professionals, Dell claims the M6300 is a workhorse that wraps all of the power of a desktop up in a notebook-sized package.

With a 17-inch WGA+ (1600×102) LCD screen, the M6300 could definitely be considered a desktop-replacement-sized laptop. Under the hood it gets similar treatment with processor options from Intel’s 64-bit Core 2 Duo Extreme Edition lineup. The fastest chip in the line, the Intel x7900, operates at 2.8GHZ.  Nvidia’s Quadro FX1600M should keep OpenGL graphics moving smoothly – Dell claims graphics-intensive applications will run 70 percent faster than in the previous-generation Precision M90 laptop.

Although Dell didn’t give full specifics, solid-state and encrypted hard drives will be available for consumers with sensitive data. The M6300 will be able to swallow up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, which should be enough to keep even the most hyper multitaskers happy. Wireless 802.11n is also standard, so owners will be prepared the updated step up when N routers become more prevalent.

The Precision M6300 is available now globally from Dell, with prices starting at $2,070.
