Dell Unveils Super Light Latitude X1 Laptop

Dell's new Latitude X1 is the company's lightest laptop weighing only 2.5 pounds yet it still comes with plenty of features including a 1.1GHz processor and up to 1.28GB of memory.

The Latitude X1 is designed and built for the rigors of life on the road. The LCD back is reinforced to counter the pressure of an overstuffed bag placed under seat or in an overhead bin. The keyboard is sealed to protect against spills.

The 12.1-inch, wide-aspect display has shorter height than traditional screens and fits easily in tight spaces, including tray tables pinched by fully reclined seats. For the lightest travel weight possible, the Latitude X1 comes with an extremely small power adapter that is almost 50 percent smaller than the typical Latitude power adapter. When configured with the optional six-cell battery ($129), users can expect up to six hours of battery life while adding only 0.3 pound.

Starting at $1,699, the Latitude X1 is powered by Intel’s Centrino Mobile Technology, featuring the Pentium M Ultra-Low Voltage processor 733 (1.1GHz). Customers can stay connected with integrated Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR wireless capability and Gigabit(e) Ethernet. Like other Latitude notebooks, the X1 features the Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.1) for generating and storing onboard encryption keys.

  1. Eric Montgomery at 9:45am 18th October 2005 I have to disagree with lisa aziz-zadeh. I've found my Dell X1 to be and absolutely fabulous little machine. I had been wary about purchasing it based on her review, but have found that I can type quite comfortably with it. Once combined with the Microsoft "Intellimouse Explorer for Bluetooth", I found that my desktop was relegated to server status as I was able to get comfortable anywhere with the X1. It does tend to get rather warm when used heavily for extended periods of time, but I found that an el'cheapo usb powered laptop cooler works absolute wonders. Fast, responsive, it does EVERYTHING I need. Keep in mind, this is NOT a desktop replacement. It's an ultraportable laptop that won't bog you down when you're working on the go. An excellent buy in my opinion.
  2. Ian Bell and Dan Gaul at 10:45am 1st September 2005 This is why I try to go to the store to try out laptops before I buy them. I know you can mess with Gateway systems at Best Buy, it would be cool if Dell has stores where you can try these.

    Thanks for the feedback!
