Early July Malware Spike

Early July Malware Spike

Security company MXLogic says that Independence Day and the upcoming launch of the 3G iPhone will bring a spike in malware.

Malware writers like to use any opportunity to distribute their goods. So that makes today’s holiday a golden opportunity to them, according to security company MXLogic, who also predicted that the launch next week of Apple’s 3G iPhone will see another spike in e-mails containing malware.

Last year, the company noted, spammers used the 4th to unleash a wave of mails containing the Storm Trojan using botnets, and as of yesterday afternoon, Vnunet reported that F-Secure had reported mails offering videos of fireworks displays that contained Storm.

But it’s not just major holidays that excite the malware men. MXLogic has predicted that next week’s major Apple event will also bring a host of spam containing malware. In a statement it said:

"MX Logic expects significant spam, scams and malware campaigns surrounding the highly anticipated July 11th release of Apple’s new iPhone. Scams will be especially prevalent if supply doesn’t meet demand."
