The Gateway sales page says "universal burning capability to any kind of disk." but the specs say the drive is only a Blu-ray/HD-DVD player and a DVD burner.

I wonder how many people will get it home and expect to be able to burn to 4xBlu-ray or 1xHD-DVD recordable disks?

If they did add a dual format HD burner, the only ones available burn to Blu-ray but only read HD-DVD so far. Basically a Blu-ray data drive with HD-DVD reading support due to Paramount and Universal as the sole movie producers holding out on producing Blu-ray format movies.

Why would Gateway use a 2400XT in a gaming rig instead of a 3850/512MB or just a regular 3870? This boggles the mind. Surely the are aware of the performance advantage of the new cards.
Is that Hyperdrive an LG unit? I think they are the only company to produce a dual HD format drive like this.
