Gateway's new DX420 series multimedia PCs are designed to offer power and advanced features at prices appealing to home users.

Computer maker Gateway today took the wraps off its new DX420 line of desktop multimedia PCS aimed at home users, offeirng advanced features and power at budget-conscious home users just in time for the end-of-year holiday buying season.

“Multimedia enthusiasts will find the DX420 an ideal multimedia hub for the home,” said Todd Titera, Gateway’s senior manager for consumer desktops. “With the breakthrough speed of the Intel Core 2 Duo processor, the latest Intel P965 chipset, up to 4GB of 667MHz memory and enhanced graphics, it is powerful enough for digital content creation, gaming or media center duties, such as managing a library of MP3 music downloads or recording and watching favorite TV shows.”

The Gateway DX420 series will be available in three basic configurations—the DX420B, DX420S, and DX420X— all of which offer Intel Core 2 Duo E3600 processors, 9-in-1 media card readers, 100Base-T Ethernet, dual-layer DVD burner, integrated Intel 7.1 audio, and Nvidia 7300LE graphics controllers as base gear—although the 256MB Nvidia GeForce 7600GS video card is available as an option—and ship with Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition. Hard drive options include 150 GB 10,000 RPM Raptor drives or huge 750 GB drives offering up to 1.5 TB of storage for movies, video, and other media. RAID 0 and RAID 1 configuration are also available, and the DX420s are either certified Vista capable or Vista Premium Ready.

The DX420 systems should ship October 19, 2006; the base DX420B configuration (without monitor and speakers) starts at $599.99, with basic configs of the DX420S and DX420X starting at $799.99 and $999.99 respectively, which includes speaker and LCD monitor options.
