We’ve built an awesome Steam Box. It’s small and efficient, yet has the grunt to offer awesome graphics in today’s most demanding games. The computer, which comes with Ubuntu 12.10 and Steam pre-installed, serves up a Core i3 processor and a Radeon HD 7770 graphics card. Yet we also managed to squeeze in a third-party CPU cooler and a reliable Antec power supply.

steambox23You can read how to build our Steam Box step-by-step for under $500, but if you’re feeling squeamish about rooting around in the guts of a PC – or lucky – you can enter to win our own. The system you’ll receive is the exact computer we constructed in our guide.

What do you have to do? Not much. Just leave a comment below with your guess about when Valve’s official Steam Box will be released and how much it will cost. We’ll pick a winner next weekend and announce the winner in the comments.

Only U.S. residents are eligible to win.

A USB-C hub hanging out of the Steam Deck.

Windows 11 and Windows 10 work on the Steam Deck with official Vale drivers, too. It's not as simple as hitting a download button, though. In this guide, we're going to show you how to install Windows on the Steam Deck, both to the internal solid-state drive (SSD) and from a microSD card.

Assassin's Creed Mirage on the MSI Claw handheld.

There's a rising tide of handheld gaming PCs, and Nvidia is missing out on the action. The push of handhelds into the mainstream started with some purpose-built AMD systems on a chip (SoCs), but now Intel is joining the fray with its Meteor Lake platform. Out of the big three, only one company is missing: Nvidia.

Nvidia probably isn't too concerned with making an SoC for handhelds -- after all, it was AI that pushed it to become a trillion-dollar company -- and it's a long shot that the company would ever make one. With that in mind, consider what follows to be wishful thinking because Nvidia could make one insane SoC for handheld gaming PCs.

You just can’t kill the Steam Deck
Steam Deck held between two hands.

Ever since Valve released the original Steam Deck, the PC gaming world has been on the hunt for a Steam Deck killer. Asus went first with its ROG Ally, and Lenovo followed shortly after with the Legion Go. That's not to mention the swath of smaller brands that have been chipping away at handheld gaming PCs for years, such as Ayaneo and GPD.

You can't kill the Steam Deck, though, at least not with the current offerings. Valve has a particular advantage with the Steam Deck that it's been building for years, and it will be hard for a true competitor to emerge in the growing market of handheld gaming PCs.
