Google Turns 10 With A New Site

Google has launched a new site to celebrate its 10th anniversary and also starts a new, do-good project.

Yes, Google turned the big 1-0 recently, and its started a new site to celebrate that decade in business, according to CNET. Among the items on the site is a Google timeline that lays out important markers in the company’s history, including 2000, when it indexed its billionth Web page, or 2004, with the famous IPO that made a lot of employees very rich.

But, more importantly, for its birthday Google has also begun a project called 10 to the 100th (which is a reference to the googol number), which is quite simply aimed at letting people help one another. People can submit ideas, with the top 100 announced in January, after which the public can vote on the top 20. There will be an advisory board that can select up to five ideas, and Google will give the best one $10 million.

The company said:

"Beyond a certain, very basic level of material wealth, the only thing that increases individual happiness over time is helping other people. If you have an idea that you believe would help somebody, we want to hear about it. We’re looking for ideas that help as many people as possible, in any way, and we’re committing the funding to launch them. You can submit your ideas and help vote on ideas from others."
