Google’s App Breaks Web Apps, Security

Google's new web accelerator application is upsetting users with rumors of it breaking web applications and messing up logins and passwords.

“Google Inc.’s Web Accelerator application, launched as a test on Wednesday, uses a combination of local and server-based caching and preloading of Web pages to more quickly serve Web pages to auser’s browser. Google’s servers, in many ways, act as an intermediary between Web sites and a user’s browser.

But Google’s approach has had some unintended consequences. Google officials Friday confirmed that the company was aware of as many as five sites where Web Accelerator was returning users cached pages under other people’s user names. “

  3. James at 12:07pm 9th May 2005 I knew this app sounded shady when it came out. What does Google stand to profit from it if everyone is using it? I think eventually they will turn it into a money-maker some how. I would stay away from it until its out of beta form.
