Google’s Chrome OS and Chromium OS Intro Videos

ChromeOS

Google unveils details about its new Chrome OS and that it is open-sourcing Chromium OS. Check out Google's intro videos.

If you didn’t hear about the Google Chrome OS (operating system) preview today, don’t feel out of touch, the event was rather low key.  The Chrome OS, an open source operating system based on Linux and Google’s Chrome browser, is still in its early stages of development and apparently won’t launch until the end of 2010. The big news today was that Google open-sourced its little gem as Chromium OS because the company says it is “eager to engage with partners, the open source community and developers.”

  • Good video. I am sure I will try the OS, but a lot of it doesn't make sense to me. I don't check my email on the net. I use Outlook. I don't play games through my web browser, I play them on my PC.

Seems like Chrome OS only makes sense for Netbooks (maybe?), the elderly or anyone that just browses the web. That's not a lot of people....
  • I like the videos as well, but I believe what they are planning isn't just using games on the web like they are now..but more like your pc becomes a soft client.

You can still play your Call of Duty or whatever on your computer, but all the files for the game are stateless, so you can use any google os computer to play the game without installing it on each machine. All the files are stored on the Internet, on your google account or whatever it ends up being. Same with bookmarks, chat profiles, documents, movies, pictures, etc.

That's were the end game is I think, no pun intended.
