High Percentage Of WiFi Networks Insecure

In news that really isn't news to us, the developer of war driving sofware Kismet says that nearly 80% of the wireless networks he comes across are insecure.

Kismet developer Mike Kershaw said in an interview posted at HERT (Hacker Emergency Response Team) that “despite all the press about it, the overall percentage of unencrypted networks is still at about 80%, and companies still make the news for exposing personal data over insecure networks.”

Kershaw goes on to say that he thinks “unfortunately, the same group likely to buy consumer hardware … for a smaller office is the same group least likely to understand the security applications.”

For more information on how to secure your wireless networks, read Designtechnica’s guide on the subject. Click here for the full interview with Mike Kershaw at HERT.
