Hitachi’s Laptops With No Hard Drives
Hitachi will launch new laptops in Japan that come without a hard drive. They are supposed to offer better security for the user.
The laptop terminals act like portable workstations, that connect to a main server for information and in order to be used.
Shipments of the new computer, estimated to sell for around 260,000 yen ($2,476) per unit, will start in April, and Hitachi expects 30 billion yen in sales of the terminals and related services in the two years to March 2007.
Hitachi itself plans to introduce 2,000 units by March for in-house use and another 8,000 in the business year starting in April.
