According to an International Data Corporation (IDC) report released Feb. 28, 2005, HP has reclaimed the number 1 spot in the laptop market grabbing 15.6% market share.
HP’s unit shipments for the notebook segment worldwide grew nearly 21 percent quarter over quarter, almost 1.4 times the industry growth rate, according to the analyst firm’s fourth quarter analysis. Additionally, the company’s quarter-over-quarter growth rate was more than five times its nearest competitor’s.
“HP enters what it has declared the ‘Year for Mobility’ by leading the market in this high-growth segment while also increasing profitability,” said Ted Clark, senior vice president and general manager, Mobile Computing, HP. “The market has confirmed HP as the mobile vendor of choice, and these results further reinforce our place in and commitment to the notebook business.”
