HP Ships Infected USB Keys

HP Ships Infected USB Keys

HP has issued an advisory after shipping virus-infected USB keys for its Proliant servers.

Is someone trying to target HP’s Proliant servers? The company has announced that it’s inadvertently shipped USB keys that have been infected with the’W32.Fakerecy’ or W32.SillyFDC’ that can infect servers.   The keys, which are in 256 MB and 1GB versions, are used to configure the servers when they’re installed. Not all keys havebeen infected; it appears to be a single batch.   HP has recommended that to “detect and clean this virus infection the HP USB Floppy Drive Key can be plugged into a USB 2.0 port on asystem with current (up-to-date) anti-virus software and scanned. If the optional HP USB Floppy Drive Key has been used in an environment without current (up-to-date) anti-virus software then theW32.Fakerecy or W32.SillyFDC virus may have spread to any mapped drives on the server. In this case HP recommends that the server and mapped drives are scanned with current (up-to-date) anti-virussoftware.”
