HP Unveils New Special Edition Pavilions

HP has rolled out two new Pavilion notebook special editions, featuring powerful graphics, sturdy processors, entertainment capabilities...and those unique cases.

Hewlett-Packard is getting back into the crazy case game, unveiling two new special editions in its Pavilion notebook line, the Pavilion dv4t and Pavilion dv5t special editions. Each system is available with a selection of Intel Core 2 Duo processors along with an Nvidia GeForce 9200M graphics controller with 512 MB of video memory—and both are designed to be both powerful work computers and entertainment powerhouses.

The dv4t sports a 14.1-inch 1,280 by 800 pixel display, offers up to 400 GB in hard drive storage, comes with either 3 or 4 GB of RAM (with support for up to 8 GB), along with Wi-Fi and Ethernet networking, 4 USB 2.0 ports, an ExpressCard/54 slot, HDMI video output, a microphone and Web cam, and an optional integrated modem. Other configurable options include a WWAN card (Verizon or AT&T), DVD or Blu-ray optical drives, and a TV Tuner with remote. The dv4t is available now at prices starting at $1,099.99, although HP’s recommended configuration runs $1,247.99.

The dv5t includes the options and capabilities of the dv4t, but rolls in a 15.4-inch display with the option of either 1,280 by 800 or 1,680 by 1,050 pixel resolution, but runs off Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics. Prices start at $949.

Of course, each of the special editions comes with HP’s unique cases: the dv4t sports graphics “inspired by crashing waves” intended to convey energy and power, while the dv5t offers a ceramic white coloring based on a leaf design to symbolize “rejuvenation and growth.” We imagine if customers add a couple Ramones stickers, and either system will blend into a crowd.
