InFocus Projects DisplayLink to Intel Macs

InFocus has announced support for Intel Macs, enabling Mac users to control up to six projectors via USB.

Digital projector marker InFocus has long been promoting DisplayLink technology, which enables users to push audio and video to projectors over a standard USB connection, rather than using VGA or HDMI connectors. The advantage: DisplayLink can handle up to six projectors at once, which (depending on graphics capabilities) can mirror the same image or act as independent displays so users can set up video walls or set up presentations that handle multiple video sources.

Until now, DisplayLink has been a PC-only game on InFocus projectors, but today InFocus announced DisplayLink drivers for Intel-based Macs, including Intel-based iMacs and Mac minis as well as MacBooks, MacBook Airs, MacBook Pros, and Mac Pro towers. The driver requires at least Mac OS X 10.4.11 (and runs under Mac OS X 10.5.5 Leopard).

"DisplayLink USB graphics brings unparalleled ease of use to projector connectivity," said DisplayLink executive VP Dennis Crespo, in a statement. "We aim to offer the same ease of use that people have come to expect from a Macintosh—technology that just simply works."

The driver is downloadable now from the InFocus Web site for use in the company’s existing DisplayLink-enabled IN110- and IN3100-series projectors (suggested prices $999 and $1,499, respectively), and will ship pre-installed on the new IN3108 projector, due this February.
