Intel to unveil DDR2 chipsets next year

Intel Corp. will introduce its first DDR2 chipsets in the second quarter of 2004, according to DRAM executives attending the JEDEX Conference in San Jose this week.

They are counting on Intel’s adoption of DDR2 to help push DDR2 memory into mainstream PCs.

Geof Findley, supplier manager for Intel platform memory operations, declined to give a debut date for the firm’s DDR2 chipsets. However, he said Intel is solidly behind DDR2 as the next generation for servers, desktops and mobile PCs.

Intel’s DDR2 chipset for desktops is code-named Grantsdale and the mobile chipset version is code-named Alviso. As previously reported, the DDR2 chipset for servers is code-named Lindenhurst.
