For a while AMD has led the way in the processor market, but Intel's declaring "game on" with its forthcoming Core 2 Duo (aka Conroe and Merom) processors.
After months of hinting its next generation of processors were going to enable chipmaker Intel to retake the lead from rival AMD in areas of high-performance, power-user computing, Intel finally lifted the veil today, allowing independent reviewers to publish evaluations of its forthcoming Core 2 Duo processors, known by their codenames “Conroe” and (for mobile platforms) “Merom.” The consensus: Intel’s hit a home run with the Core 2 Duo.
