Very thoughtful article, I agree this is sponsored by the RIAA. I can see how they most likely pitched it. The state of TN gets a LOT of tax revenue from the media industry hosting the heart and soul of country. Loss of sales for the media industry directly results in loss of tax revenue for the state. In a time when many states are struggling to pay the power bill a little legislation to help secure their tax base is common.

The RIAA is behind this, which the music industry wants to equate to paying music services.

It's not always about stealing. There is such a thing as stealing cable or stealing a service, but it can be dealt with these days. In most cases it is simply people like you giving your wife, or a girlfriend, or a friend, or a family member, login info. Especially considering that with digital services/goods there seems to be no good way to share anything, sharing logins is one of the only ways to actually share. You can't hand your wife a CD of Pandora.

The problem with the law, from what I've read of it, is that it is vague, which means it could be used to target individuals. I'd like to say that the RIAA and MPAA would never do that, but, well....

Not sharing. if the systems allows it, then it must have been the design of the engineers. after all, there is no UDID (apple devices), IMEI or IMSI (for GSM phones) or MAC address tracking done by theses services (i hope!!). otherwise they would have been locking out access base on devices a long time ago.
