MelZoo Challenges Google

MelZoo Challenges Google

Google has another competitor in the search engine stakes, this one offering a split-screen search.

A new search engine challenger to the behemoth known as Google arrived over the weekend. Called MelZoo, its big hook it that it offers a split screen, the search results on the left, and the corresponding web pages displayed on the right.

The company says that this makes site loads faster, and eliminates the needs for multiple tabs or windows. It doesn’t charge advertisers when users preview sites, only for real hits.

MelZoo chief executive Alex De Backer said:

"MelZoo has improved the experience of browsing the internet in a totally different way. For years people have used an old technique – text only – to browse the web. MelZoo has revolutionized the way users will browse the web."

  1. Kevin Bush\ at 12:57pm 14th January 2009 Interesting idea, but it definitely slows your searching. While in google and other search engines, you can skim urls, MelZoo loads an archived page of every hovered url in the left. With slower computers (like the one at work), it definitely slows up the process. With faster servers and a better pc, it could be more beneficial. I'll have to see when I get home.

Right now, however, I prefer the text-based searches.
