Microsoft has finally shipped Virtual Machine (PC) for the Mac. It is the first release since Microsoft purchased the technology from Connectix nearly 20 months ago.

“Officially dubbed Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 with Windows XP (news – web sites) Professional, the $249 package includes a license for Windows XP Professional. Other versions of the virtual machine software, which lets Mac users create a special space on the hard drive to hold the OS and PC applications, are forthcoming, including those bundling Windows XP Home and another sans an operating system.

Features in version 7 include support for the 64-bit G5 processor that power the newest Mac models, easier installation, and a fast save that saves the PC environment in the background so users can return to the native Mac OS immediately. Microsoft also claims that this edition is 10 to 30 percent faster than its predecessors in emulating the PC.
